hen it comes to automotive care, few people give
Wtheir tires a second thought.
Few people take the time to regularly check the air pressure in their
tires, the alignment or balance. According to tire manufacturers, a
typical passenger car tire can lose up to 1 percent of its air
every month. Over time, that can add up to a substantial
loss of air and cause irregular wear and contribute to
decreased fuel economy.
The tires everyone is accustomed to were first
developed in 1888 by John Dunlop. The doughnut-
shaped black tires are known as pneumatic, or air-filled
tires, and are produced in some 455 factories around
the world.
