2019 GOLF GTI SPECS
TYPE
The Golf GTI has long been lauded as the original “hot hatch” and the 2019 version from Volkswagen pays homage to that tradition by Sport Hatchback
increasing the standard horsepower to 228. That power is created by VW’s 2.0-liter TSI direct-injected inline four, which is turbocharged. DRIVETRAIN
The usual three trim levels are offered, which are the S, SE, and the Autobahn, but there’s also a limited edition GTI Rabbit, which is 2.0-liter Turbocharged
situated between the S and SE trims. In addition to the extra ponies, the line gets Golf R brakes and the VAQ mechanical differential. Direct-Injected I-4,
Fans of manual transmissions will be happy to know that the third pedal is alive and well in the Golf GTI, although you can opt for the 228-HP, 6-speed Manual
7-speed DSG Tiptronic, which is absolutely brilliant. While the overall silhouette remains familiar, the redesigned front end has a much Transmission / 7-speed
more aggressive look to it. All models come with standard LED daytime running lights, with the SE and Autobahn versions featuring VW’s
Adaptive Front-Lighting System. 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels are standard, and you’ll see red brake calipers tucked behind them. DSG Tiptronic Automatic
On the interior, VW continues its tradition of keeping things driver-focused, with the controls thoughtfully placed. The seating position, FUEL ECONOMY
pedal placement and shifter height have been fine-tuned for driver comfort. All Golf GTI models feature the MIB II infotainment system, 24 City / 32 Hwy
which employs a capacitive-touch sensor rather than the more common resistive touchscreens. BASE PRICE
In short, it’s similar to the interface found on smartphones and tablets, allowing swiping $27,595
and pinching gestures, rather than touch-pressure based units. The Golf GTI has
always been about an engaging, invigorating driving experience,
and this version is sure to deliver on that mission.
