Wreck Racing
Founded in 2003, Wreck Racing is a 55-member
all-student racing team housed in Georgia Tech’s
Student Competition Center. Wreck Racing builds
cars for the annual Grassroots Motorsports $2,000
Challenge (see www.grassrootsmotorsports.com).
With a tight budget, the $2,000 Challenge favors
those with more ingenuity and skill than money.
As many as 70 different teams return each year
to battle it out and see who can squeeze the most
performance from a few pennies. Wreck Racing
uses this unique racing challenge to teach stu-
dents the skills of fabrication, machining, comput-
er-aided design, vehicle engineering, and the field
of motorsports within the scope of a constrained
budget.
Following the Subaru flat-6 powered mid-engine Georgia Tech

This coming summer, we are set to compete

is a 6-day track event that will be held at the
Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Our
team is currently working to complete our
third-generation vehicle, SR-3, and to have it
tested and race ready for competition in July.
SR-3 incorporates bold new design strokes,
while still building on all the lessons learned
on the Oregon Trail last summer.
GTSR also goes out of its way to promote green
tech and alternative energy in the communi-
ty. Our outreach efforts include visits to local
schools, displays at various corporate exposi-
tions and fairs, and an annual presence at the
huge Ray C. Anderson “Ray Day” sustainability
event.
